5 Home Improvement Tips for the Summer
With summer comes hotter days, beach trips, and the opportunity to gloss up your home to bring in the summery vibes in the comforts of your own space. Getting some home improvement projects done for the summer is a surefire way to savor every ounce of that summer vibe even if you’re not on the beach or travelling to the hottest summer capitals of the world!
Here’s five home improvement tips that you can get into immediately, even if it’s already summer!
- Let the sun in
One of the best parts of redecorating and improving your home for the summer is the opportunity to let some natural light in and bask in that golden light. The best part is that it lets you save plenty on the electricity bill by not requiring you to have to turn on lights for a greater part of the day! Summer’s the best time to rearrange here and there so there’s a great view of the outdoors, which can look just as great as a painting would!
- Conserve energy
Summer almost always means that electric bills will most certainly rise, but that doesn’t have to be a steep incline. Minor repairs can help you conserve energy in your home while making it as comfortable as possible as well.
For example, you can add caulk around your windows and doors so less heat comes in and less cold air from your air conditioning comes out – cooling your home faster and longer without needing to crank up the thermostat higher. You can also clean your air conditioning unit regularly to avoid dust buildup which makes the unit’s air output seem weaker by comparison.
- Update your surroundings!
Home improvements to match the season is the perfect opportunity to try something new, check on the old, and do everything else in between. Check what needs to be repaired or replaced such as siding, windows, roofing, pavers, peeling wallpaper or paint (why not paint the interior of your house in fun, breezy colors!), etc. Clean your gutters, change throw pillow cases and curtains, vacuum carpets – basically do a general cleanup. The summer means more time to do things (and for those with families – kids who are just lounging around and could help you out) and that’s the perfect time to do a good amount of basic home improvements!
- Set up (or update) your patio
Patios are nice places where you can enjoy the summer comfortably – day and night. Fixing up a backyard patio for your home is one fulfilling DIY project you can work on this summer, and it can be set according to your own preferences. Having a patio gives you a cool, relaxing place in your home, which means you won’t need to spend a lot to travel somewhere else and enjoy a cool summer night.
There are lots of tips online on how to set up your own patio, but what you need for starters is a nice space to set up your patio, the flooring material/base you need (brick, tile, etc.), preferred seating and surfaces, and even kitchen patio staples if you have enough room.
- Get green
The summer view is not complete without a great dose of green – plants, bushes, flowers, trees, and everything else in between. Try your hand at basic landscaping, plant some herbs for fresh picks when you cook, or even set up a hanging garden if your space is a little limited. There’s every reason to start gardening or landscaping with the beautiful summer sun!
It may be the middle of summer for many, but that doesn’t mean that it’s too late to start on summer home improvements that will make this awesome season even more enjoyable – even in the comfort of your own space. Whether it’s a personal project or a family activity, updating your home for the summer is bound to be lots of fun and will be fulfilling at the end!
